The ram air hood with optional air box intake system forces cold air into the trottle body under pressure through a completely sealed system. With this Ram Air Hood system (Hood with optional air box), your engine builds more HP the faster you go. You will see more horse power gain starting at around 50 mph. The Ram Air Hood is a seal system that delivers pressurized cold air. Air is denser when cooled, which means more oxygen is available for combustion in the engine. Better combustion means more power. A larger supply of cold air forced into the engine when the throttle is open increase power and improves throttle response.

Q: What is Engineered Plastics?
A: Engineered Plastic is not just your run of the mill plastic. Engineered plastic hoods are made by an automated machine and repeats the process perfectly every time, so your hood fits perfectly. It is made by blending various high grade plastics together to create a high grade plastic that will exhibit certain characteristics such as high strength, high impact, and/or high heat resistance to stand up to the end use it was designed for and to meet engineering specifications.

Q: How hard is it to install your ram air hood?
A: Our hoods come with detailed instructions that show you how to easily install your hood in about 30 minutes. It is recommended that you prefit your hood before installing hardware. Just install your hood and adjust it according to the instructions provided. It's that simple!

Q: Is your WS6 style ram air hood an exact duplicate of the factory?
A: There is a subtle difference in that our hood design does not have the small grooves around the ram air vents. We eliminated them for a smoother-looking appearance. Our hood comes with the original factory injection molded plastic vent grilles and ram air decals to give it that original OEM look.

Q: WILL WATER GET INTO MY INTAKE WITH YOUR RAM AIR HOOD?
A. Our hoods have a built-in water management system consisting of four (4) built-in water shields to prevent water from getting in. To date, we have not had a complaint of water getting into an intake.

Q: How much does your ram air hood weigh?
A: 50-60 lbs.

Q: Do you offer an air box to make your ram air hood functional?
A: Yes, an optional air box with high flow filter is available for several models as specified.

Q: Do you offer your ram air hood painted?
A: Yes, for an additional charge we can paint your hood to OEM standard to match your body color. We use PPG paint and base coat / clear coat. We paint both top and underside of the hood. When you receive your hood, it will have the air vent grilles pre-installed. Ram air decals are included for you to install at your discretion. You can install the hood on your vehicle in about 30 minutes.

Q: How much horsepower will ram air add to my vehicle?
A: We have not performed any test, however, you will feel a noticeable power difference, especially when you accelerate at around 50-75 mph. More air is forced into the intake at a higher rate of speed and then generates the horsepower gain you will receive, especially in colder weather. The high flow filter will produce a more high performance sound from your vehicle's engine.

Q: DOES YOUR RAM AIR HOOD SYSTEM PRODUCE MORE HP THAN RAM AIR HOOD WITH A COLD AIR INTAKE?
A. Yes, where you see the term "power hood" listed by the product, it means that the hood delivers air to the intake under pressure in a sealed system, which creates more HP then a cold air intake that has to suck the air into the intake. (See system comparsion on the side bar for more info)

Q: What should I do if the hood comes damaged?
A. Even though we package our products very well, occasionally the freight carrier will damage our product. In that case, refuse the shipment and do not sign for it. It is expressly recommended that the package be opened and inspected immediately upon receipt, even if the box looks undamaged. CAUTION!!! If you sign off with the freight carrier on a damaged product, they will not honor any freight damage claim at a later date and you will be held responsible. CAUTION!!! If you are having someone besides yourself receiving your package you must make it clear to them that they are not to sign off with the freight carrier until they have inspected the product and found it to be ok. If you have to refuse our product because it was damaged, simply call us and we will send you out another one ASAP. If you or someone else signs off on a damaged product, APM will not be held responsible. You must refuse it!

Q: Should I prefit your products before I have them painted?
A. Yes, it is always good to prefit any product before you paint it if you can. This is especially true with fiberglass parts. If you are not the orginal owner, it is possible that the vehicle was in a previous accident, which could effect how our product fits you vehicle

REINFORCED FIBERGLASS CONSTRUCTION:  Many of APM's ram air hoods are constructed of hand-laid fiberglass, using high quality "ISO resin" to give you the best possible quality in a fiberglass hood. It comes with a smooth gel-coat finish, on both top and underside surfaces.  All hinge and latch mountings are reinforced with steel plates. All bolt holes are pre-drilled and tapped for easy installation. To install these hoods, all you need to do is transfer your stock hardware onto it and bolt it on to the factory hinges for final alignment. ISO resins are a higher quality, low shrink resin that allows the part to withstand more heat and prevent distortion. 
 
OEM Engineered Materials (HIGH-IMPACT PLASTIC):  More and more today, OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) are using engineered plastics as the product of choice for body panels on their vehicles. There is a good reason for that. They are lighter in weight, which makes vehicles more fuel-efficient, plastic does not rust and it does not damage easily.  Some good examples of engineered plastics are the GM Saturn. It's body panels are comprised mostly of plastic. Most front and rear fascias are plastic as well. Also the front fenders of the 2002 Trans Am are engineered plastic. While the APM ram air hood is made from a more rigid plastic, it also has great impact and heat resistance. Engineered plastic body panels are made with machines that have aluminum or steel molds, and have perfect repeatability from part to part. Aluminum and steel molds are very reliable. Engineered plastics are the perfect choice because in the long-run, they hold up better, are lighter, easier to paint, have better impact resistance and make for a perfect fit every time. Engineered plastics are not to be confused with urethane plastic parts, which are often used in the aftermarket. Unlike urethane parts (where paint does not adhere well), primer and paint stick very well to engineered plastic.

About APM Paint:  The nice thing about buying a pre-painted hood or spoiler is that you don't have to hassle with a body shop. Our painters paint hoods and spoilers every day under controlled conditions to give you the best quality available. We buy our paint directly from PPG Paint and we mix it ourselves to match the OEM Formulas exactly.  It is PPG's Deltron base coat / clear coat system. We paint the top surface of your hood to a Class A finish and the underside to a Class B finish. Our spoilers are painted to a Class A finish.   After each hood or spoiler is painted, it is inspected for any dirt or defects and if necessary, it is wet sanded and buffed. Once it is finished, each hood and spoiler goes through a final inspection. If it does not meet our stringent quality standards, it is rejected and sent back to be redone.  Once the hood or spoiler passes inspection, it is packaged thoroughly to protect it during transit to you. If for any reason, your hood or spoiler is damaged in transit, then refuse the shipment and we will send you another one.  If you have a new vehicle, it is very unlikely that there will be a problem with the paint color match. If there is, we stand behind our work 100% and we will work with you until it is correct.  If your vehicle is older, you may have to buff the rest of your vehicle to bring back its shine to match the hood's new paint.  PLEASE NOTE: We or APM does not guarantee paint color match for vehicles more than three model years old.   If your body color is metallic (like silver), you may experience a condition called 'Metal Flop.' This condition is caused when one body panel is painted at a separate time than the other adjoining body panels. This could cause the metal in the metallic paint to lay in a different direction and reflect light differently. Your hood could appear a little light or a little darker than say, your fenders depending on the direction you are looking from.  The only way to overcome this problem is to either paint the whole vehicle at the same time that you paint the hood or to have the hood blended into the fenders by spraying both the hood & fenders. This process can be very costly and is mostly likely not necessary. In most cases, unless you are a perfectionist, the slight difference in the lighter or darker shade of one body panel to another, will not bother you.  APM paint carries a one year warranty against cracking, peeling, fading or oxidizing. We have very few paint problems with our painted hoods. Usually it is the "perfectionist" that will call with a problem. If the paint finish is damaged or you are dissatisfied with the quality of our paint when you receive your hood or spoiler, it would be best if you went ahead and installed it on your vehicle to make sure the fit is ok. Once you have fitted it, stand back 5-8 feet and see if you still notice the problem that you may have seen at one foot away.Associated Documents
