Sema has released light pickup truck sales figures for Jan to Apr of 2008. According to SEMA eNews Vol. 11, No. 22 – May 29, 2008 there is a shift in consumer choices for pickup trucks from 2007 to 2008. Full Size Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge, Nissan and GMC trucks sales are down, whereas the Toyota Tundra is up 25% and the Ford Ranger pickup is up 12%. Read the rest of this entry »

The 2009 Ford Flex is due to be released in the summer of 2008. This ride boasts seating for up to seven, a multi-panel vista roof(tm) and a refrigerated console. This family vehicle measure more the 202 inches long, so its longer than a full size pickup or sport utility vehicle. It even features interior LED lights. Go Ford Motor Company.

The all-new 2009 Dodge Ram Crew 1500 features an available first-in-segment RamBox cargo management system that provides weatherproof, lockable, illuminated and drainable storage compartments integrated into both fender sides for effortless access and convenience. Each box holds up to 4.3 cubic feet of whatever – such as five cases (120 cans) of 12-ounce beverages.
The RamBox system includes a bed divider/2-foot bed extender for oversize loads and a rail system with sliding, adjustable cleats for infinitely adjustable tie-down capability. The 2009 Dodge Ram’s tailgate features a standard assist feature that reduces the effort needed to raise and close the tailgate.
Another new segment-first innovation for the 2009 Dodge Ram Crew 1500 is a pair of “store in the floor” bins with removable liners that offer even more versatile storage – large enough for ten 12-ounce beverages and ice.
There are many other convenient storage locations throughout the all-new 2009 Dodge Ram including a large upper glove box, map pockets in door panels and a configurable center console. All in all, there are nearly twice as many storage locations (38) in the all-new 2009 Dodge Ram than were in the previous model.
Technically sophisticated, yet simple-to-navigate electronic and infotainment choices include MyGIG Multimedia Infotainment System with 30-gigabyte hard drive, navigation system, and a rear-seat DVD entertainment system available in the Quad Cab and crew cab. Despite ever-decreasing new light-truck sales, the specialty-equipment industry continues to put out a growing number of new products for these vehicles each year, according to new SEMA research. Over the past three years, for example, there were 29 percent more products entered in the “Best New Van/Pickup/Sport-Utility Product” category within the SEMA Show’s New Products Showcase.
The 2007 SEMA Show showcased 137 new products in this category, compared to the 108 and 106 entered in 2006 and 2005, respectively.
Topping the list in 2007 were suspension parts (16 percent), including springs, spindles and full lowering kits. Air filter kits came in second, representing 9 percent of new products in this category, while truck bed accessories (6 percent, including tie-downs, bedliners, etc.) and exhausts kits (5 percent) came in third and fourth. While a number of these products were designed for both pickup and SUV applications, 45 percent of all the products in this category were made solely for pickups, an increase from the 40 percent in 2006.
These vehicles continue to be a target for innovative new specialty-equipment products for a good reason: They consistently top the list of new light-trucks sold in the United States. Despite drops in sales—a likely side effect of escalating gasoline prices—consumers demonstrate a continued need for pickups in their daily lives.
