Buyers opting in for the V-6 on the Ford F-150

How does the old saying go?  You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink.  It appears that the market it pretty thirsty for the turbocharged V-6 Ford F-150 with estimated numbers coming at up to 40 percent opting in for the EcoBoost system.

About 25% of F-150 pickups sold during March were taken with the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6s, April sales ran about 35% for the V-6, and Ford says current orders are tracking 40%.” – Reports USA Today.

The EcoBoost was marketed specifically to buyers as an alternative to the F-150′s V-8 to save gas but provide the same power consumers have come to expect from the Ford brand.  The gas savings are significant.  EcoBoost boasts 16 MPG in town and 22 on the highway.  Something any truck lover sits up to take notice of especially when the manufacturer guarantees the V-6′s hauling, towing and torque performance is comparable to their traditional V-8.

Ford is surprised and pleased by the reception and places a good portion of the credit on the state of fuel pricing across the country.  Depending on the model, the price of the optional EcoBoost engine is between $750 to $1,750.
