There have been many reports of inaccurate fuel level readings while driving a 2005-2007 Chevy Trailblazer, GMC Envoy, Buick Rainier and Saab 9-7x vehicles. This is potentially a huge problem and could affect over 800,000 vehicles.
Consumers have been reporting that they have been running out of fuel when their fuel gauge clearly reads there’s fuel in the tank. There have been a total of 668 complaints about fuel gauges not showing accurate readings. Out of the 688 complaints, 58 of them were stalls and 43 of those were allegedly caused by faulty gas gauge readings. There has been one crash that has been allegedly caused by the faulty gauges.
The NHTSA investigators have been investigating the claims. A GM spokesman Alan Adler said the automaker is planning to “work with the NHTSA and was cooperating in the investigation”. The safety agency said that complaints showed “an apparent increasing trend” with “most complaints received within the past year.”
NHSTA spokeswomen Karen Aldana said that there is no set timetable for how long the initial phase of the investigation could take.
