Tyler Grammatas was mowing lawns when he suddenly turned into a First Responder.

We never really know what we’re made of until we’re called into action.  Tyler Grammatas of Youngstown, Ohio found out pretty early considering his age this summer.  He’s only 15 and already a hero to many who know him and to one special lady who didn’t know him at all until one fateful day.

From the WKBN article:

The 15-year-old has been cutting a few neighbors’ lawns at his dad’s house in Warren and on Wednesday, he didn’t know a simple task would turn out to be a dramatic moment.

“I went over and asked her if she wanted her grass cut and she started yelling ‘help!’ And she told me to break in,” Tyler said.

The neighbor, named Miriam, is in her 70s. Tyler broke through the front porch screen, unlocked the door and made his way to Miriam’s side.

“She was lying on the floor and she couldn’t get up,” Tyler said.

Tyler ran to get a friend’s help. They called 911 and got Miriam the medical attention she needed. They said it appears her blood sugar levels dropped and her body went into shock.

Tyler exhibited some adult decision making without hesitation and we think that is going above and beyond what is expected of a 15-year-old!  He stayed cool, calm, and kept it real under dyer circumstances.

What he did also brings to light something we’d like you to consider this holiday season.  Please take time to check on your elderly neighbors to ensure their welfare.  And if they are alone this Thanksgiving, invite them join you for dinner.  You may find that you’ll value their company and want to make it a monthly or weekly habit, not just a holiday tradition!

We see people who Keep it Real all the time, but we’d also like some nominations to come from you, our readers.  We know you see examples of people helping others with no thought of reward EVERY DAY!

To send in a nomination for a Keepin’ it Real feature, please email kyd @ realtruck.com.  Please send as much information as possible!
