Football at any age can be intense and for Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head, this was a first round playoff game. But Myrtle Beach wanted to do something different near the end of the fourth quarter. They decided it was time one of the opposing team’s senior players had a chance to score a touchdown before he put up his cleats for the end of the season. They gave him the opportunity to make a play. Not just any play… a 75 yard touchdown play.
Chip Mullen from Hilton Head was given the ball and ran it in for the points.
Chip has downs syndrome.
The Myrtle Beach Seahawks players are clearly pleased they aren’t the focus of attention for winning the first round of playoffs. Rather, they’re proud of the fact they helped Chip and the Hilton Head team fulfill one of their players dreams of making a touchdown during the last game of his career.
They’re getting national attention for Keepin’ it Real and going above and beyond what was expected of them. We’d like to extend our graciousness to both teams for expressing what we feel is one of our best Guiding Principles, Unity with Individuality. Both teams were united with a single goal and came together to allow for a single player to have his moment in the sun.
Our dearest hope is that nominees for Keepin’ it Real come from you, our readers. We know that you see examples of people helping others with no thought of reward EVERY DAY!
