Adding a custom look to your truck with aftermarket accessories is an awesome way to make it your own. When you can add functionality and flair to your pickup, it is a winning combination. Bed rails are the perfect truck accessory to do exactly that.
There are two main styles of bed rails, though there are other types on the market. Before you select a style, you’ll need to determine exactly what you will be using them for. For example, if you installed a tool box which extends over the sides of the bed, your truck will require bed rails which can be installed properly regardless of the box. The size of your bed will also be a factor in the length of the rails. Custom sizes are available for both short and long beds depending on the truck manufacturer.
Drill Style Truck Bed Rails This style is the sportiest, with additional areas for tie down attachment or handgrips for riders in the back of the truck. Another positive aspect is that they do not extend the entire length of the bed. Instead, the end of the rail falls just shy of the last stake pocket. Normally, some drilling for the mounting holes is required on the bedside to accommodate mounting. Drill style truck bed rails offer a great look and are made from either 16 or 18 gauge steel.
Stake Pocket Rails These rails are popular because you don’t have to drill any holes on your new truck. They extend the entire length of your truck bed and mount in the last stake pocket. Made of 16 or 18 gauge steel, stake pocket rails are sold in either stainless steel, chrome or powder coated finishes giving you a nice variety of choices.
