  • What Benefits Can You See From Adding a Tonneau Cover?

Posted on July 20th, 2009 admin No comments

In my opinion as a truck owner, tonneau covers are the perfect way to keep your belongings stored safely away from the weather and more importantly, envious eyes of thieves while you’re away from your pickup truck. While soft tonneau covers aren’t built for those who need every available inch of cargo space to haul things, they are a good choice for those truck owners who prefer to store small items in the bed of their truck. These truck covers also protect your cargo from blowing away in the wind as you’re driving down the highway.

In case you were wondering, there are basically two types of tonneau covers – hard covers and soft tonneau covers. Hard covers are best style to choose if you prefer extra security since they cannot be cut open like the soft style and they are lockable. The hard tonneau covers tend to cost a little more than their soft counterparts but the peace of mind knowing your cargo is safe is worth the extra money. Many truck owners get their covers painted to match the body color, with some even adding matching graphics. The only drawback is if you need extra vertical space in your bed frequently. They are not made for frequent removal and can be quite difficult to remove once installed.

If you own a pickup truck because you do haul cargo frequently, then your best bet is will be a soft truck cover, such as the Blackmax from Extang. These covers don’t offer near the same type of security as their hard body counterparts, but they are very convenient. They can easily be adjusted, added, and removed whenever the need arises. True, they are no where near as sturdy as a hard top, they can still hold their own in most weather conditions, even up to twelve inches of snow. Some covers are even strong enough to support the weight of two people standing on them.

  • Advantages of Installing an Undercover Tonneau Cover

One of our best selling tonneau covers is the Undercover. This hard hinged, low-profile truck bed cover made from ABS polymers comes with many distinct advantages. An Undercover tonneau cover is unlike any other truck bed cover on the market and the reason why it is such a great seller.

Sold in black, the Undercover can painted to match the color of your truck since it is made from plastic. It also weighs much less than the typically heavier covers made from fiberglass. The less weight you have the easier your engine has to work, and the less fuel it will burn, saving on fuel. Wind glides over the truck bed cover with less resistance rather than hitting your tailgate and causing a strain, especially during higher speeds caused from highway driving, another way an Undercover saves you on fuel efficiency.

Undercovers hold many more distinct advantages over fiberglass covers. The cost of these truck bed covers are also much lower than fiberglass lids. Plus, they can withstand a tremendous amount of weight and are impact resistant unlike fiberglass covers. For example, what do you think would happen to the ABS plastic when given a light blow of a hammer? Not much, you probably would not even notice it. Now do the same with painted fiberglass cover. The cover would be severely damaged.

Another advantage of these plastic covers is how it protects your cargo from the weather. Its one-piece design is great for keeping your cargo dry during a hard rain. Forget about ever shoveling snow out your truck box ever again. Leaves and debris will probably just blow off the top of it rather than collect in the cargo bed.

You can install this tonneau cover quickly and easily within a half hour using its fast clamp-on installation design. If you need extra room in the bed, simply remove the cover within seconds, thanks to this quick release hardware. The advantages of the undercover tonneau cover seems to turn the sourest puss into a smiling face.
