Everyone knows that racing legend Mario Andretti has been a pitchman for MaglaFlow Performance exhaust for a number of years. What many don’t know is that Mario first promoted the value of performance exhaust in providing extra horsepower, torque and improved mileage back in 1957 – to his father! Andretti goes on to explain that what “Papa” Andretti liked most about the United States was that American cars were much more quiet than their European counterparts. In 1957 Mario’s dad traded his 1951 Buick for a new Chevy Bel Air. That same day Mario and twin brother Aldo had the exhaust system altered to dual exhaust with glass packs. Although Mario and Aldo were impressed with the throaty exhaust sound and extra performance, their dad was devastated; telling the boys they had “ruined” his new car. Not wanting to go back to the original exhaust, Mario and Aldo explained to their dad that the performance exhaust would actually increase the fuel economy of the car and save money on gas. ”He bought it,” Mario said.
