  • A Review of the Rollback Tonneau Cover from Bak

The Rollbak truck tonneau cover, from Bak Industries, is one of the toughest truck bed covers on the market. This retractable tonneau cover pulls back into a canister behind the truck cab when not in use. The canister is made of a rugged and quite durable ABS plastic and is formed in a rounded design to expel water. The average canister is about 8.5 inches in diameter; however some are smaller which leaves you with an added space under the canister in the front of the truck bed.

The side rails are lined with a high-density polyethylene which is better than Teflon since Teflon has a tendency to freeze. Another positive aspect of the Rollback cover is you never have to grease it, and it works well in all types of weather. No matter what the outdoor conditions may be, the Rollback truck bed cover can handle it.

The slats of the Bak Industries Rollback retractable tonneau cover are made of powder coated industrial strength aluminum and are strong enough to withstand well over four hundred pounds. The slats also are designed to channel any water to the side tracks to the ABS canister and then out the bottom of the truck through hoses. The tonneau cover system is designed to retract every twelve inches, meaning you can close it pretty much anywhere you want.

The Bak Rollbak truck bed cover locks automatically when closed all the way. There is no visible latch or locking system since the cover latches underneath the tonneau cover. In order to access the cover, you would need to open the tailgate. After you install a locking tailgate latch, your tonneau cover becomes a very safe and secure storage area. Anyone can lift or lower the tailgate without moving the tonneau cover and the stake holes along the side of your truck bed remain uncovered, which is great if you use a truck rack or tie downs.

The powder coat flat paint is a very durable finish which you can wax as you would the rest of your truck body. The installation is a no drill clamp system, but many applications use two self tapping screws at the front inside corners.
