Description

The Go Industries TailGuard is a hassle free bed extender that turns a 6' bed into a 8' bed and a 8' bed into a 10' bed. This new bed extender by Go Industries fits all full size trucks such as ford, chevrolet, gmc, dodge and Toyota. When the TailGuard is not in use it collapses back into itself leaving the entire bed for normal loading. The Go Industries TailGuard is constructed of high-strength black powder coated aluminum. The TailGuard has a tight mesh which secures smaller materials which reduces lost loads. The TailGuard rotates 270 degrees for use with ramps. This is a very easy install that requires some drilling with an install time of 30-40 minutes.

Great design. With swing over designs and store forward designs you'll be forced to carve up your bed space or remove the extender. There is another design out there that folds up onto the tailgate, but if you're putting something long in the bed (which is, after all, why you need this), then you have to unfold it to the setup position first, then lift your load over the top of it. The Go Industries design opens up and swings all the way down (270 degrees) out of the way. Then put your load in and swing it up and into position. Perfect! Now for some warnings: Drilling is required, but easy because it is aluminum. If you have a later model pickup DO NOT blindly drill from the included instructions for your brand. I have a 2010 Ram 1500 and the template for the holes (supposedly for ALL Dodge trucks) was INCORRECT. If you want to connect it to your existing tailgate holes (for the access panel), you may have to take off the panel and use it as a template for holes in the extender. On my Ram, two of the holes were so close to the gate hinges that I had to ream a bit of space out of the welds for the bolt heads. No biggy. And you don't have to use the factory holes either, but it makes sense to use factory threads if they exist. Also, put it as high on the tailgate as you can without going past flush if you want it to swing the entire 270 degrees easily. It is spring loaded so will be OK if you're not quite flush. It arrived with another flaw - the little lock/latch did NOT engage the slot in the tailgate. The latch may have just been installed upside down at the factory, but I would have had to unbolt everything (a pain for the bolts jammed up against welds) just to see if reversing it would help. Instead I elected to carefully bend the latch to get it to engage. Final note: The day after mounting my extender I went in to have my canopy put on. On my newer model a part of that operation is to replace the plastic tailgate cap with one that provides a ridge for the canopy door to seal against. This put extra height for the expander gate to swing past such that I no longer get my 270 degree swing - only about 225. Bummer, but good enough. It hangs out a bit when open but not so much that it impedes my reach into the bed. So, the design, and instructions, could be improved, but the concept is GREAT and this is the only model I've found that works this way. I still wouldn't buy a different model.
