The Jeep wrangler is in its 4th generation of existence and got its design and style features from a WWII Jeep. The Wrangler came out in 1987 and has been redesigned 3 times since then. In 1987 the Jeep CJ was replaced by the YJ which was marketed as the Jeep Wrangler. In 1992 the Jeep plant in Ontario was closed down and moved to Toledo, Ohio in the exact same plant that the Willys Jeep was made in WWII.
The YJ was faster than the CJ Jeep and went through a major reconstruction to make it more attractive to everyday drivers. They made the Wrangler into a more comfortable riding machine with a leaf spring suspension, like the CJ except the springs were winder and the YJ had trackbars, improving overall ride quality and handling. The YJ also featured a wider windshield and square headlights.
In 1995 the TJ Jeep came out and replaced the YJ, although the YJ was made up through mid year 1996. During that year the YJ was sold as the 1995 model, but had a few tweeks including the TJ hoods and bumpstops.
The next big change came in 2007 where they completely redesigned the Jeep Wrangler and the TJ was replaced by the JK. It featured a longer wheelbase, wider track and was shorter than the TJ. This bad boy is the freshest version of the Jeep Wrangler and is featured in 2 different trims including Sahara and Rubicon which are available in both 2 and 4 door.
The JK Wrangler features stability control which is fairly new as well as anti-lock braking, traction control and an electronic slip differential. These features help to stabilize your Jeep, making it a more road friendly cruiser. When designing the JK, the people at Jeep wanted to keep it an off-road machine while making it as city and highway friendly as possible. This is why you can find all the comforts and features of other vehicles in the new JK Jeep. In addition, if you’re looking for options, Jeep Wrangler has you covered as the JK comes in 6 trim options, giving you the best vehicle for your specific needs.
