BakFlip G2 gives you access to virtually all of your truck bed without removing the cover! The BakFlip Panels flip open to reveal 1/4, 1/2 or all of you truck bed!
The cover folds in one direction, and all panels lock into place against the back of the cab. When the BakFlip is folded up, it protects your rear truck window from your cargo.
The BakFlip works with all makes of bed extenders. The Bakflip can be unlatched from the driver's or passenger's side.
Generation 2 of the BakFlip tonneau bed covers feature newly designed rubber side seals that attach with tongue and groove, rather than tape. Reinforced panel frames that are 3 times as robust and have integrated drain channels under them, so there is no necessity for tape ANYWHERE. BakFlip covers are made of multiple panels. These panels automatically lock as you close them. The only way to release these hard folding panels is to pull on a latch cable secured under the cover. Doing so will allow you to fold each panel forward. When the panels are closed you cannot open the cover without access to the under-side of the BakFlip panels

FAQ Answers to BakFlip Truck Bed Covers
Security: BakFlip covers are made of multiple panels. These panels automatically lock as you close them. The only way to release these hard folding panels is to pull on a latch cable secured under the cover. Doing so will allow you to fold each panel forward. When the panels are closed you cannot open the cover without access to the under-side of the BakFlip panels. LOCKING YOUR TAILGATE will result in the cover being completely impregnable. If your truck does not have a locking tailgate then a tailgate lock such as a pop n lock can be simply added. The latches secure the cover on both sides and the panels can be operated from either the driver or passenger side of the truck bed. This means it is convenient to operate the cover from either side. All BakFlip’s have tamper-proof locking slam latches which offer maximum “out of sight – out of mind” security and peace of mind.
BakFlip Cover composition: BakFlip covers are made from heavy duty laminated sandwich panels. These panels are layered with ABS sheets on either side of a core made from EPS, essentially making the panels extremely strong, yet lightweight. The panels are also insulated making them noise resistant and allowing the truck bed to be cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. The EPS (closed cell foam) core is completely weather resistant and cannot leak or allow any moisture to penetrate the panels. The ABS is UV protected and impervious to harmful sun rays, acids, fertilizers, chemicals, gasoline etc. All BakFlip covers have 4 panels which fold. Trucks that are less than 6 feet long have just 3 folding panels. All panels are framed with tough aluminum frames. These frames add to the tensile strength of the panels and allow over 200lbs of evenly distributed weight to be put on top of the cover. The panels are almost an inch thick. And sit completely flush with the top edge of your truck bed rails.
Hinges: BakFlip hinges are seamless. Unlike a piano hinge which can rust, leak, squeak, corrode and wear with time, the BakFlip seamless hinge system is made of a synthetic rubber. These specially formulated hinges act as the panel connectors, yet are flexible enough to act as hinges. This unique patented hinge system is completely silent and will not result in road chatter and is completely water proof.
Clamping system: BakFlip covers all install using a patented rail system. This rail system is clamped to the truck bed using specially designed clamps that grip behind the truck bed rails and sandwich the BakFlip rails in position. These clamps result in a clean, easy installation that requires no drilling. They clamps are easy to install and are serrated so that they grip the rails firmly and will not slip or loosen over time.
Rails: BakFlip rails are made from extremely durable Aluminum. They are powder coated black to match the vehicles accents and have a built in drainage gutter to collect any unwanted water. The rails help to funnel the water towards a drain valve located at the front ends of the rails. This patented rail system ensures that your cargo remains dry at all times. The panels also latch to these rails. The rails are lined with rubber gaskets so that they never scuff or rub the paint off your truck bed rails. The rails extend a mere 1/8th inch over the edge of the truck bed and 1 inch inwards of the truck rails. This means that they do not obstruct bed extenders and will work with most toolboxes as well.
Weights: The average cover weighs a mere 40 lbs. This includes the weight of the rails. The cover is designed to handle over 200 lbs of weight. The core of the panel gives it a lightweight feel, however don’t be fooled by this. Many aircrafts are made with this technology and are designed to be extremely strong, yet light. Because of the light weight nature of the cover, it is easy for people of all ages to operate. It’s also easy to ship or to remove and put back whenever you’d like.
All season friendly: Since the BakFlip is made of specially chosen weather resistant components and engineered with as few moving parts as possible, they are extremely water tight. While it is impossible for any cover to claim being 100% water proof, BakFlip covers can be relied upon to keep in excess of 98% of any water out of the truck bed. There are 2 drain hoses in the front of each rail that funnel water that’s collected in the rail system out of the bed. Since 99% of trucks are raised at the back and lower at the front end, these drain tubes are uniquely position at the far front corners of the bed to ensure that they work optimally. Snow and ice are no match for the BakFlip. Simply break any ice build up off the cover or sweep off snow. The BakFlip is designed to perform in extreme temperatures. Since the panels are impact resistant, they cannot dent, so even hail is not a problem. Specially engineered front and rear gaskets seal the cover at the cab end and tailgate end of the truck. This keeps moisture out and ensures tighter security on a whole.
Driving with panels open: You can absolutely drive with the BakFlip panels open. Specially incorporated D-rings and anchor points are an integral part of each BakFlip cover. This means that you can drive with one, two, three or four panels open for a wealth of loading options which are unavailable with any other truck bed cover. This feature is a favorite of any person who pulls a 5th wheel trailer or simply wants the convenience of NEVER having to remove their cover to haul a load of any size. Every BakFlip cover has 2 integrated gas struts. The struts assist in raising the panels to a vertical position behind your cab. Since the panels are stacked on top of each other before being raised vertically, they are at their heaviest which is why the struts are so convenient. They are rated at 70 lbs. They gas struts will keep the panels in this upright position without allowing them to flop down. IT IS HIGHLY RECCOMMENDED THAT YOU ONLY DRIVE WITH THE COVER IN THIS POSITION IF YOU MUST, EG: IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING SUPPORTING IT OPEN SUCH AS A DESK OR REFRIGERATOR.
BAKFLIP WORKS WITH OTHER ACCESSORIES: Huge amounts of research have gone into producing BakFlip covers to allow them to seamless co-exist and install with other commonly used accessories. These include bed caps, tailgate protectors, bed rails, carpet bedliners, spray on bedliners, drop in bedliners, floor mounted tool boxes, stake pocket mounted accessories such as tie downs and racks. Unfortunately BakFlip covers are not designed to work with old fashioned over the rail bedliners unless you modify the rails of the liner. The will however work with any bed rail (plastic) that comes on trucks directly from the manufacturer.
Maintenance: Since BakFlip covers are rugged and built to last, simple washing at the time you wash your truck is sufficient to see your cover last for years. The BakFlip is more expensive than soft covers, but the added security was worth it to me. It's also very simple to operate by yourself compared to velcro or the peel and seal types. I installed it at 10:30 at night in my driveway, with my wife holding a halogen lamp for me. So, yea, it's easy to install. :)

Easy installation, although it did take me a few days to install the deck rail extenders because I painted them black. Everything fits perfectly with no issues. Previously it was mentioned that they only sent 8 brackets, but mine came with 10 so I had exactly what I needed to push down the deck rails. The only reason I'm not giving it the full 5 stars, is because I'm a little concerned about the longevity of all the rubber on this device as I open and close the top repeatedly. But for now, everything appears to be good.

The installation would have taken only a few minutes, except that the factory installed bedliner made the interior of the bed 1/2" short for the rails. (I had to cut 1/2" off the rear end of both rails. I also noticed that the ribbed gasket that faces upward on the passenger side rail was torn. (Not the result of shipping). I contacted BAK about both issues, but have not heard from them.
The buying experience with RealTruck was first class.

Some people are disappointed in this top becasue it is not rugged enough in their opinion. It is not meant to carry large amount of weight and has a 200lb load limit. I love the ability to have a securied bed and also be able to fold the top out of the way when needed. Please ask me for another survey down the road.

The only thing I do not like about the BackFlip G2 is that when you want to expose the whole truck bed and you fold it foward, It rests against the back of your cab. I know they give you soft foam rubber bumpers for you to install on the cover and they are what contacts the cab, but over time they will mark the cab and come off. Product support, questions and ordering at Real Truck was excellent.

Posted By: Roger F. (Brecksville, OH) on 03/2008 Very dissatisfied with the BakFlip tonneau cover. It leaks water badly between the plastic panels and the aluminum panel frames. It also sags from it's own weight causing water to pool in the middle of the cover, compounding the leaking issue. The weather stripping has beem falling off (reglued several times) and already replaced all the foam seals on the underside. This product is absolute junk and it's only been on the truck for a year. To add injury to the insult, I cut my hand on one of the pop-rivit heads a couple of months ago. The only thing positive is it does lock securely. If it weren't for the security, I would rate this as 0 Stars.

There are some areas I had to use some extra sealant to try to improve the water-tightness, and even with that it still gets some water into the bed. I have had the cover on for seven months and the side rubber covers have both come off, but that did not impact the water infiltration that much. Also, the cables to unlatch the sections have a channel covering them and two have fallen off, again, this does not affect the overall use that much. Even with these issues, the three out of five is because the alternatives I looked into were all worse solutions. Knowing the limitations of the truck bed in advance, I am very satisfied with this product and would buy it again. My suggestion would be they improve the adhesive used to attach the parts (especially the rubber).

It took four mechanics in our shop an hour to install it (they are all perfectionists) but any one of them could have done it in 20 minutes. The bed seals, which are glued to the top of the cover and run the length of the bed, have come off due to the adhesive failing in the heat of summer. I received no response from the factory when I tried to get new seals under warranty. Without the seals the cover leaks water into the bed.

I don't care if I get the odd drip of water, I have a truck and want to be able to use the box full width, and full height (tall objects), and full depth. I also wanted the security of knowing it's closed and not easily accessed by a crook. This fit the bill perfectly, and looks great too. Had numerous people comment already and have a feeling a few might end up ordering them.

Would definitely recommend as a truck bed cover.
