The REL Stapleton Tailgate Ladder was designed to make truck bed access safe and easy. It's universal design allows it to be mounted to virtually any midsize and fullsize pickup truck with 28" and greater tailgate heights. The heavy duty base plate easily bolts to your tailgate for a strong and secure mount location. The ladder itself easily attaches to base and can be quickly removed if needed. With the tailgate down, users can quickly swing the ladder into position or fold it away in seconds. REL Stapleton designed the step ladder to be locked into position with the tailgate closed for hassle free storage. It features a 250lb capacity and can be mounted on either side of the tailgate. The tailgate ladder has 3 steps and a durable black powder coat finish.

I order this ladder for a 2004 Chevy Avalanche. I looked at the other models and this one seemed to take up the least amount of real estate in the back of the truck. Plus, if you've got heavy loads going in and out via dolly you can remove the ladder with a couple of quick release pins! When fully mounted and closed the ladder takes no more than 3" of space across the back of the tailgate. That space is negligible when compared with the alternatives.
The ONLY negative I have is with the design of the pickup. Because of all the seals (to prevent moisture in the bed), the bed cover of the Avalanche, and the tie down loops in each corner I had to mount the ladder mounting bracket 5.5" in from the side and top. This was about the minimum one could go and still clear all these items. But this is why I purchased my Avalanche; to keep the items in the truck bed safe from thieves and rain! Back to the mounting plate, this distance is still far enough from away from the middle of the tailgate that one can fully use a dolly without affect from this bracket. The plate is flat and the screws are set flat within the plate. The only items protruding up and the two 1" square bars that stand no more than 3" high for setting the pins mentioned above. They too are far enough to the side of the tailgate (6" from the side) that they are not a bother for heavy loads. I moved my daughter's room to college and the ladder was really nice for stuffing the back of the bed.
So much for the ladder, now a moment about RealTruck. They emailed me within 30 minutes of my purchase (I'm sure that was automated since I ordered the ladder in the middle of the night), they emailed me the next day stating they had the order and would be processing it by end of the next day. The next day they again updated me that morning of the status, and by close of business I received another communication with my shipping tracking number. I did NOT consider these updates as a nuisance, I felt each status update was timely and had valuable information! I feel this purchase from RealTruck was nothing short of professional and their response quick, and will not hesitate to use them in the future when purchasing any more 'bling' for my Avalanche or other vehicles I have!

I like the tailgate steps. However, they were over priced. After I got them installed, I was in Pep Boys amd they had the same steps for about $30 less. Still a good product.

The screws provided aren't sufficient to adequately secure to the truck tailgate. Augmented with other heavier duty screws.
