• Hitch Class Research Guide

Trailer hitches are divided into classes specifically to inform the user what potential weight the hitch can hold while resting and what the hitch can tow while in motion.  RealTruck strongly advises you to refer to your vehicle owner’s manual for specific information about towing capacity and hitch class recommendations.  Your vehicle’s specific recommendations supersedes any information you may find here.

Ratings here are general and hitches listed on RealTruck contain more specific information.  Your towing setup may vary slightly depending upon your weight distribution and application.

Tongue Weight refers to the weight the part of the trailer that extends forward from the trailer box (including coupler) can hold.  This is the downward force that is exerted on the hitch by the trailer when it is fully loaded.

Gross Trailer Weight refers to the weight of the trailer, completely loaded in towing position.

    Weight Distribution System

The function of weight distribution hitches is to give you better control of your vehicle and load by spreading the trailer’s weight across the tongue of your trailer and tow vehicle, especially when you have heavier loads.  This prevents jostling of your load during transit and an overall better driving experience while operating the tow vehicle.  RealTruck’s weight distribution hitches are used in addition to a standard hitch.
