Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Do I Need A Four-Wheel Drive Truck?  No, many SnowBear owners with two-wheel drive vehicles are very happy with their results. The plow clears the snow away before it gets to the tires.  The more traction that your vehicle has, the more versatile the plow will be and the more snow it will be able to push. This is why four-wheel drive vehicles are usually preferred.  SnowBear owners with two-wheel drive vehicles will find that adding weight in their vehicle helps them push through more snow. Less traction means that you need to plow more often and that you should not let the snow accumulate too much, especially if it is wet and heavy.
  2. Can I Install The Mount Myself?  The SnowBear Personal Snowplow Mounting Harness is designed to be bolted on to the frame of the vehicle. No welding or drilling is required. The installation of the mounting harness will not be difficult for a person who has a set of tools and is comfortable using them to perform mechanical repairs on vehicles and houses.  Vehicle dimensions are not always consistent, particularly if it has been involved in an accident. Where possible we have used slotted holes to allow for this, however, sometimes a bit of prying or twisting will be required. If the customer is uncomfortable, we recommend that the mount be installed by the licensed or certified mechanic who normally looks after the vehicle.
  3. How Long Does It Take to Install The Mounting Harness?  Installation times vary among vehciles. A newer full-sized GM truck takes about 30 minutes. Other vehicles which need a more complicated mount may require two or three hours.  We normally allow two to three hours for an inexperienced installer and a typical mount.
  4. What If My Truck Is Not Listed On The Application Guide?  First call SnowBear Customer Service (800-337-2327) to see if the mount that you require is already in production. If it is not you may order the SnowBear Professional Mount Kit. With this you will be required to fabricate some brackets and you should be willing to drill holes in your vehicle frame.  The mount is only recommended for the advanced Do-It-Yourselfer.
  5. What If I Sell My Truck Next Year?  You may still use your plow but you will need to order a new mount by calling our customer service department at 800-337-2327. If you own more than one truck, it is a good idea to order a mount for each vehicle.
  6. Does The Plow Angle?  Yes, a spring loaded release allows you to manually angle the blade. To reduce cost and complexity there are no hydraulic control systems on the plow for remote angling. How Does The Remote Control Work? The remote control is used to raise and lower the plow from within the vehicle. The 12ft. control can be temporarily mounted on your side window or permanently installed under the dash.

Fits well, does what it's meant to do. Honestly though... Lotta money for what it is. I guess snow bear realizes they got you by the stones and charge top dollar for it.

Function in the end is fine. Fit on the other hand not that great. Had to tap bumper tab that lines up with front of frame rail. Not a terrible issue, but it is not a great fit.

Other than that you will need a 1/2 drive inch swivel to get in the front bolt. The bolts are 12MM with a 1.25 pitch. I ran a tap through the threads as the ones that did not have tow hook do get rusty from not have bolts in holes.

Shipping was slow.. mount fit perfectly and was very easy to install with just a socket set. I will mention this though, in the event you have to return it for an exchange, it will take about a month or longer. Submitting the return info to real truck was simple, getting the RMA# for the return took two weeks and you can't send it back without this RMA. Then they tell you it will be a month before you receive the new one. They suggest buying a new mount the having them credit your account when they receive the old one. Also, shipping it back is about $25, so make sure you get the right one because it can be an expensive, time consuming wait.

As with most Snowbear products, this was a perfect fit. Take the bolts out and pop on the new part, gota love a lick and stick instal. Took my plow off my F-250 and put it on my new F-150 without issues or hassles.

Three notes:
- If you have tow hooks, they will not go back on, unmodified.
- Watch the nut plates in the frame, you can easily push them into a
hard to reach location as they are not spot welded to the frame.
- Minor mods, you may have to "trim" the plastic cowl to allow
the plow to go on.

It would have been a very easy install if it came with the correct hardware but it didn't so it took a while longer plus a trip to the autoparts store for the correct metric bolts needed to bolt it to the frame

I contacted customersales and service to inquire about the Universal Mounting Kit to see ehat it included. The is a picture of the parts. It is not clear if the cross bar member was needed for a F150 that never had the mount for a snowbear plow. Just above the is a picture of a REPLACEMENT CROSSMEMBER. Please note the crossmember is needed for ALL F150 that has NEVER had a snow plow mounted and still has the tow hooks.
I had to go back and order the member seperatly.

The parts inventory indicated 2 threaded plates accoring to the enclosed drawing butwas missing one Plate. Thankfully I did not need the plates for this particular mount.
Do not remove both tow hook bolts. This will misalign the thread plate in the truck frame. If it is done carefully you should be able to leave on bolt threaded while mounting the brackets.
The quality of the parts are excellent and well made of heavy steel.
