About the Toyota Tacoma

You can’t talk Tacomas without first mentioning the Toyota Pickup–North America’s rebrand of the hyper-popular Hilux. In 1995, as Toyota neared the release of the next-generation Hilux around the world, the U.S. saw the discontinuation of the Pickup; instead, Toyota introduced an all-new midsize replacement: the Toyota Tacoma.

The all-new midsize was an instant success in the USDM market, sporting a slightly larger profile and a torquey 4.0L V6 powerplant that kept up with America’s increasing demand for larger, more-powerful pickups.

Even after nearly three decades, three generations (soon to be four), and several stand-out models like the TRD PRO and Pre-Runner, the Tacoma remains the United State’s best-selling midsize truck. The Model also features one of the best pickup resale values, earning the KBB Best Resale Value Award for its 13th consecutive year in 2022! Other awards include the KBB 2022 Best Buy and the KBB 2020 5-Year Cost to Own awards.
