If you are or once were an owner of a "truck bed only" ladder rack, then you know it can be nearly impossible to mount them with really long objects. No longer do you have to live this way! What if I were to tell you that Cross Tread has designed an "over the cab" truck rack, giving you the ability to haul those longer objects that have been menacing you for years?! You probably wouldn't believe me! But people I'm here to say they have! Take a look at the Cross Tread Renegade XT.
The Cross Tread Renegade XT is made with an over the truck cab design. It is made out of heavy-duty 14 gauge steel tubing and is finished with a thick layer of powder coat. The completely adjustable design is made possible by the ingeniously placed bolts and telescoping poles. Having these great features, the Renegade XT truck racks fit most mini and full sized trucks out there.
Weight capacity seems to be a much talked about rack feature and we think you will be pleased about the high weight capacity that the Renegade XT is rated for. These bad boy truck racks can withstand weights of up to 1,000 lbs. exceeding all your expectations. They are also featuring quick release locking pins for rear bar removal, three cross rails and the steel diamond plate ends finish this superb rack off. The included camper shell mounting brackets will allow you to mount this rack over tonneau covers and toppers.
This rack is simply amazing! It has a design that gives it a rugged appearance and mounts over the cab, giving you the ability to mount that long and pesky cargo. Made by Cross Tread.

I didn't like the way it mounted on the truck. The mounts stuck outside the truck body with the potential of someone walking into them and cutting themselves. We made a modification using 2"x3" angle the length of the side rails to keep it inside the truck body. I've used several other brands and never came across this issue before. You get what you pay for.
The rack came with some parts packed inside other parts. Once I figured out that they were inserted backwards the job of installing it was fairly easy. One should be sure to go around w/ wrenches and check the tightness of all nut & bolts after driving an hour or so.
Installed on a 2008 Chev Colorado, with a 5' bed and crew cab. The installation was a bit more complicated than many truck applications. For instance, to bolt the rear uprights to the bed rail I had to remove the taillights to get access to the nuts and washers. I found a strong magnet, the type used to hold tools on the wall, could not only hold the uprights while I placed the washers and bolts, but it had the added benefit of holding the washers in place while I put the nut on the tip of may finger and turned the bolt to start it. If I had to do it without the magnet I don't think my extra large hand would have fit. I also had to cut about 6 inches from the side rails and drill new holes at the cut end to make it fit. The rack can still extend out 10+ feet.
One mod I intend to make is to weld the rack onto 2"X2" angle iron that would be the full length of the bed and across the front. That would allow easy off and on with clamps.
Shortly after purchase, I carried about 500 pounds of 20' pipe set directly in the middle of the rack. It carried the weight quite well although greater weights likely stress the thin metal rails on the truck bed.
Overall a well made product with a heavy gloss black paint. Does not include the rear window guard shown in the picture, but I didn't expect it anyway so no big deal.
Very fast service - the truck racks were as described - would purchase from again - Chris Kenney
Well made product, easy to assemble, very sturdy. Does make some wind noise at high speeds. Customer service was excellent! I installed the rack on a late model Ford F-150 shortbed with a fiberglass camper shell, using the included mounting plates. Since the Ford bed rails are wider in front than back, the stock mounting plates didn't line up. I contacted the manufacturer and they quickly sent me a pair of extra-wide mounting plates *at no charge* which solved the problem.
This is an excellent product. It is easy to mount on the truck ~ I used the option of keeping my topper on the truck (of course, it had to come off for installation). Because my truck has the extra short bed, I had to modify the back siderails by cutting and drilling new holes ~ no big deal. I have used it hauling ladders and two canoes. It has served both purposes well. The portion that is cantilevered over the crew cab was quite solidand did not come close to touching the cab roof ~ even in use during high winds with canoes. A few tie-down straps and everything is secure. After use for a while, with the help of my daughter, I took it off in about 15 minutes, leaving the mounting brackets attached. Shipping was FAST and inexpensive.
I recommend BOTH RealTruck AND this Cross Treads product. The operator who assisted me with a couple of questions was particularly pleasant and helpful.
GREAT JOB RealTruck!
I ordered a Cross Tread Ladder rack for my Dodge Dakota. I got a great price (even with import fees, I live in Canada) and even though they said it could take 10-14 days to arrive, I actually got it in 3 days. I'm very happy with my purchase and would recommend "Real Truck" to anybody looking to buy quality accessories for their truck.
