Frequently Asked Questions

Will they work with bed liners?
Yes, but there are a few simple additional steps that need to take place to make them compatible. If you own an under the rail liner, you need a couple small rubber shims to assist the lifting of the tonneau over the tailgate protector. Over the rail bed liners need to be notched out in order for the tonneau clamps to go through.
Will I be able to open and close my tailgate?
YES, there is no restriction caused by the tonneau.
What can I clean my Tuff Tonno with?
We recommend using soapy water with a medium bristle brush. Extang also makes a tonno cleaner that is ideal for the cleansing process.

Ease of Installation
I ordered this Tonneau for my 05 Colorado. I was a bit hesitant about the "J" channel but I had seen so many Velcro covers flopping in the wind. More on the "J" channel later. The two things that drew me to this particular tonneau was the price and the arched bows. After using the tonneau, I like the arched bows as water tuns off instead of pooling. The bows are easily removed if the need arises.

Installation was as advertized. It was a bit cool when I did my installation and no sun to warm the tonneau so the first time getting the touneau fastened down was a bit of a pain. Other than the cool weather the installation went well. It took me about 25 minutes to complete.

I have since the installation pealed the tonneau back several times and found that getting the "J" channel to hook up is not an issue except for the very last inch or two sometimes can be a bit stubborn. Just follow the instructions and it will hook with a little extra pressure. I find the "J" channel to very secure and will not ever use Velcro again.

I had one small issue. The tail piece over the end gate was a bit short. An email to RealTtruck netted a response from RealTruck AND from a factory rep on the issue. A new tail piece was sent and all was fine. It seems like Real Truck and ExTang fell over themselves to make the problem right. I would have to rate the customer service at a 9 out of 10.

As far as the Tonneau is concerned I would give it an 8 out of 10. The ONLY thing I think could be improved is the tension of the tarp from front to rear. BUT... my expectations may be a bit high. I don't see this as a fault, just an area that may be improved in future renditions. I would not let this prevent me from buying a second tonneau.

So in a nutshell. A pretty good cover for the money, DARN good customer service from the factory AND RealTruck and a cover that looks like it will last a long time. A win in anybody's book.
