I bought this device to help an old man get up into his truck bed. Device needs a little pre-assembly but after that, work progressed very smoothly. I used an oversize screw to fasten the device to the tailgate. I also bought and installed the Tailgate assist, a device that adds a hydraulic lowering to opening the tailgate. This Tailgate Assist work well in supporting the extra weight.

I put this on my 2012 F250, works great. Work with soft roll bed cover. A few screws didn't go in straight had to hit Home Depot to get larger ones. Worked out and love it!

As indicated this product does not work with a cover as it has to be mounted so as to be above above the bed body and tail gate in order to open. Had I realized this I would not have purchased it. How ever I did modify the mounting to make it work by positioning the mount forward about two inched and shimming the step. This forefits the flat work surface and is a compromise. It also raises the elevation of the step about two inches but is still better than stepping to the tailgate. Since I was lowering the truck it is not critical to me. Also those little screw caps they provide pop out the first time you shut the tailgate, so if you want them, glue them in. The addition of a hand rail or pole would increase the convenience and safety of the product.Additionally the reflective strip provided is a good idea, but it is wider than the step surface and gets damaged the first time the step is used. It will over lap one or both edges.
