|The experience was overall very poor. Starting with the delivery. It was ordered on July 20th with a delivery date of Aug 1 to Aug 19th. It wasn't delivered till Sept, after many phone calls requesting delivery. It was delivered in a make shift box(as opposed to a manufactures box with organized compartments) with the parts taped together, held in place with spray in foam. It was also shipped without installation instructions. Real Truck sent me a link to down load the instructions and a $100 gift certificate to compensate for the late delivery.(thank you Real Truck). The instructions were very picture oriented and when I printed out the manual it used up all my color ink in my printer. |
This was a very labor intensive install. But not a problem except for the installation manual and improper parts. The installation instructions were vague and incomplete. It did not have a parts list or the in formation to in stall the air deflector.
There were wrong parts, extra parts and parts that didn't fit properly.
There was 6ea -1/4" plates for the latch. But the manual indicated that what was needed was 2ea -1/4" and 2ea -1/8" plates (there wasn't any hard wear long enough to install these plates). Then the front windshield up rights did not fit properly. The manual said to reinstall the original hard wear. But the mounts facing front were not bent properly. There was a gap between the bracket and the the windshield making the original bolt too short.
Where the manual indicated to install 3/4" long bolts, many of them were too short. Where they were too short is where they had to pass thru two-1/4" plates. They were too short because the nut that came in the kit were 5/16 18 by 9/16 hex head nylon locking nuts with a 1/4" of threads before you get to the locking nylon. Now you you add up the two plates, 1/2" for both plates and a 1/4" of threads in the nuts, that equals 3/4". The bolts never reached the locking portion of the nut. The result was, because i didn't notice the problem, the first trip I took with the roof rack, many of the bolts loosened up and fell off. My remedy was to replace these nuts with 5/16-18 by 1/2" hex head locking nuts. They worked fine.
When I finally completed the install there were still 2 issues. One is a rattle. The rattle was caused by the optional handle. I used a bungee cord to strap down the handle to stop the rattle. Second- With the air deflector installed and the windows closed the convertible roof was flapping around. I had to remove the air deflector.
In summary, for a top of the line roof rack it was very disappointing. The material was heavy duty. but not having the proper parts and directions was paramount to a disappointing experience.
