Yep you're not mistaken and are witnessing a retracting step that is easy to use and won't break the bank.
Whether you're a construction worker trying to grasp hard to reach tools, a parent with kids who seem to live in your truck bed or just an average Joe. You'll find many practical uses for this simplistic bed step from Amp Research. The linkage system is made out of die-cast aluminum, and will hold up to 300 lbs. The retraction pivot points are composed of stainless steel pins which swing up or down with ease, while offering heavy duty support.
As you can see in the images above, the Amp Research BedStep comes with a non-slip step pad. It is made out of durable and glass reinforced composite, which assists in a safe step up.
Simply kick the step down with a gentle nudge of a toe and whether the tailgate is open or not, you've got the boost needed for a comfortably and safe stepping experience. When your truck bed trip is complete and you're ready to step down, simply flip the pad up into its retracted place and go about your business. No bending over. No tracks to roll, no nothing! The best part - you'll hardly notice the step is there.

I'm 67, 5'8", and 240 lbs. Jumping off the back of my truck qualifies as irresponsible. The step makes loading and unloading the bed of my truck safer, easier, and pain free.
This step is essential on for my Tacoma. I just step on it to bring it down, step up to the bumper or tailgate and I'm in the bed. Just kick it from underneath and it's stored away. It's rock solid and I installed it in about 1/2 hour. At nearly $200 it seems expensive to me. It seems to me it should be less than $100.
One of the easiest online transactions and a great product to boot. Love this step and it is very well built. I am a big guy and it feels very solid. A little pricey but you get what you pay for. I was very lucky at installation time and was able to get all the bolts undone but I could see where that could have been a problem had my truck been a couple of years older. Would be nice if they would provide new bolts and nuts just in case.
Once I got the correct hardware, it was a breeze to put on. Installed on 2013 Silverado 2500 HD and it is a must to get up in bed. Really pleased so far.
Works as promised. Will, probably, buy again for the other side.
My Toyota "Prerunner is only 2WD but on the high 4WD suspension so getting up into the bed wasn't easy.
Admittedly, I had a friend install the step but it is easy to use and gets' the job done. GREAT product and I recommend it highly
Very solid to step on and a very important addition to my 2014 Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn. A high quality product!
Very easy to install and this unit works great! Does get a wee bit of slush and snow buildup in these Western NY winters tho, but all in all, no prob!
Very well built. Installation is straight forward with good instructions including pictures. Once installed it works smoothly, sits at a good height when down and feels solid when climbing in and out of the bed. The size of the foot pad is big enough to comfortably get both feet on it. Worth the price.
