I purchased a soft pickup truck bed canopy fro your company recently. The price was good and the shipping was very fast. Upon tring to install with the help of a couple of neighbor friends I was very dissapointed. Try as we may the top would not fit properly. I contacted youe company and was very pleased to find that your return policy was very good. You paid the return shipping and provided a prompt refund. As much as I could not use the product your company provided excellent service before and after the sale. Keep up the good work.
I recently purchased a brand new Silverado. I needed some type of cover for my tools. I went to a local hard-top dealership, and they wanted crazy prices for one, that wasn't even the same color. I went online and found this website realtruck.com and saw the soft topper, and purchased it right away, because the price was so reasonable. I had a mechanic actually install this for me, because in order to stretch the cover to the bed, the cover needs to be in very hot weather, it took him hours to heat the canopy up, in order to install it. I gave the installation 4 stars because of this, it may of been easier on a hot summer day. This is weather proof and you can drive it through a car wash. All and all, this is an amazing product.
I tried. Really, I tried to make it work. The first top was declared defective and the second had wrong and missing parts. I'm a fair driveway mechanic with an adequate toolbox but I had to throw in the shop towel. Way too many hours wasted installing, removing, re-package for return, then rinse and repeat. The soft top is still a great idea but Bestop's quality control seems to be amiss. Maybe it was just because I didn't buy a common sized truck. Not sure. Shipped the last of everything back to RealTruck and a refund is being issued.
NOTE: The problems are not the fault of RealTruck.com. They've gone above-and-beyond good customer service. This is a manufacturing problem.
The Bestop "SuperTop" is a fantastic concept! I WILL make this work. The first top was shipped and was declared defective after I presented a video. The second top was shipped to the wrong address and is out there, someplace. The third top, now partially installed, has 2 defective parts (on back-order, 4-6 weeks) so I'm on hold. Watch out for (1) 3rd fabric seam on the 8' bed, top fabric, does not align with the 3rd support bow, (2) front window is about 2" too short, (3)some snap caps on fabric attachment loops don't align with snap studs on metal bows, and (4)"J" channel connection system used on side and rear windows needs more tension than what the mounting bows offer.
I'll use snap extenders to fix #1. I'll fabricate a canvas or other extension method to fix #2. I'm researching methods to stretch canvas to fix #3 or I'll relocate the errant, fabric snap caps. I'll use industrial strength Velcro to fix #4. I'll shoot a video, record my time, and send a bill to someone for engineering, parts, fabrication, and extra installation services.
Despite my problems, I still think that the SuperTop is a great idea. I can lower the top to access the fifth wheel or remove the hitch and have an [almost] weatherproof cap. Also, RealTruck.com has been extremely cooperative and professional throughout this ordeal. Customer satisfaction is obviously a high priority for them.
2012 Silverado HD 3500, crew cab, long bed, dually. Instructions very lengthy but difficult at times to understand. Illustrations were adequate but real photographs would be better. Pre-assembly went "ok" but in-truck installation was difficult. Instructions estimate 1.5 hours to install. Maybe after you've done a few but not for a newbie. Not all snaps on fabric align with snaps on hardware. Fabric is 2% too small so installation was grueling but final fit looks sharp - nice and tight. An earlier review complained about the clamping system. I haven't driven with the top on the truck (just installed it today) but tension from the top is so great that the rails lift at the back of the truck. Might have to screw them to the truck rails. I'm waiting to see if the fabric stretches a bit. The concept of a soft cap warrants kudos, especially when hauling a fifth wheeler at retirement (soon) and wandering all across the country with no permanent place to store a hard cap. I'll post a follow-up in a month. Steve in Waukegan, IL.
1st trip to Arkansas about 700miles the back corners that hold top to rails tore off.
Had best top on 78cj was alot better. Do not like the clips that hold windows in. What was wrong with zippers? For the price could have been better.
Perfect for all trucks except those used for work, since it's the same security as a jeep soft top and can easily be accessed by thieves. Folding top makes it great for hauling large items and the best feature is the removable sides that makes it perfect for hauling the dogs around in the hot summer sun. My only disappointments are that it wasn't offered in any color other than black. The C-clamps used to hold the slide rails in place must the solution of their "no drilling required" selling point. Do yourself a favor and spend $3 on a handful of self tapping screws to fasten it securely to the bed. Trust me. If you don't, your neck will be sore from looking behind you to make sure it's not going to fly off going down the interstate because no matter how much I tightened them, they worked themselves loose. Biggest disappointment was with the side windows. The zip on the sides but not along the top. The top and bottom are "J" hooked that are big pain during cold weather. They should just revise the design to have zipper along the top as well.
Overall, I love it and I'm always being stopped by strangers who want to know more about it.
I love the design, but it is too small for my truck! The fabric snaps don't line up with the snaps on the bows, instructions were confusing. Plastic Windows rub badly on metal bows, they won't last long.
I bought this for my Chevy Silverado with the 6'6 bed. I don't want a hard top but for family vacations it helps to have a water tight back end for stuff, you all know what I mean. I bought the bestop on a Monday and with no rush fee they had to me by Thursday. It took me less than 2 hours to install and less than 30 minutes to take off and store once we returned. It rained a lot between Hilton Head and Atlanta and not a drop made it inside my truck. All the while my kids were comfortable as was my wife. It made the travel much more enjoyable. I couldn't be happier with my purchase.
