Installation
The Hard hat tonneau comes completely assembled. Just open the box and set the cover on the front of the bed of your truck. Secure the patented hand cam clamps, then fold the cover towards the tailgate. Then secure the rear patented hand camp clamps and your done. It can be removed just as quick. Would not recommend this product!! It looked great out of the box but I soon realized that looks can be deceiving. The fasteners for inside the bed do not make it tight enough to keep water or air out as you drive. The second issue I had was with the hard shell coming loose underneath the bed and damaging the frame (first day on truck). The third issue is with the advantage customer service. After calling and emailing they stated that they would send a UPS label for me to send it back, but I never received the label. I have left messages and emailed with no response. Would give the product a 0 out of 5 but that's not an option. Wish I would have stuck with the Extang.

Compared to the Soft Top cover from Advantage. The quality is the same. Although the added weight makes the cover more difficult to handle, and install / remove alone. Also it needed to be tightened significantly more to stay in place on the truck. it kept sliding to the front and rubbing and ruining the paint on my truck. I also fear it is damaging the bed rails because of how tight it must be to stay in place

I cannot say anything negative about this product. It comes fully assembled, fit and finish are perfect, the instructions are clear and concise and they even supply you with an extra roll of weatherstripping should you ever need it.
The cover has done exactly what I wanted it to. It gave me secure storage in the bed. I can lock the tailgate on my truck. Once this is done, you cannot open the tonneau cover. I now can keep things like golf clubs, etc in the bed with some piece of mind.
The truck looks more finished as well. It sets it off beautifully.
As a bonus, I put the cover on and gained approx. 3 miles/gallon on the highway (easy to verify as my truck shows mileage on the dashboard). I went from 18 to 21 highway.

i ordered the hard hat tonneau cover because i liked the idea of a flip cover with the look of a traditional cover. Overall construction is good, but the design lacks . first problem is no matter how much you tighten the 4 clamps the corners "bow up" at each corner leaving a gap that I could not get rid off. Second is the clamps . They are plastic and if the more you tighten them up, the more they bend to the point of breaking. The 4 clamps are 18 inches from corner which does not provide enough hold down force. Third is the solid substrate under the vinyl. The description leaves you to believe it is aluminum under the vinyl but it is a peg board like material.

My Hard Hat cover fits my 2010 Ford F150 perfect. It stays tight and was simple to install. I wanted a old style looking cover with no support bow lines. Its been raining pretty good here in Calif. and my cover has not leaked one drop of water in side my bed.I highly recomend this product its everything the manufacture says it is.

I had a Torza (soft) trifold cover (also by Advantage) on my previous truck, which I really liked. It was a big step up from the snap-down-roll-up cover it replaced, and now the Hard Hat is a HUGE step up from even the Torza! My new truck is a Nissan Frontier with the rail mounting system, and I have the bed extender, so I wanted the added security of the hard top to keep the bed extender (as well as other items in the bed) from being stolen. In addition to the extra security, I'm expecting it will be much easier to clear the snow and ice during the New England winters.
The cover truly is a breeze to install (as expected based on past experience with the Torza). The initial install takes a little longer because the clamps each need to be adjusted (a matter of simply rotating each clamp one way or the other to tighten or loosen them). Once that initial setup is done the removal/re-installation can be done in a matter of very few minutes. One person can do it alone, but it's easier to properly position the cover on the bed if you have a helper.
Advantage has made some design improvements to it's products. My prior Torza cover had a different type of locking clamp. It was more of a pull-down cam-type clamp which was a bit difficult to tighten, and it always felt like the handle was going to break. Now the Hard Hat has a much-improved side-pull cam clamp. This is MUCH easier to operate, so I'm happy that Advantage made that improvement. In addition, the older clamp had these pins that you had to insert into holes in the front clamps which were always challenging to use. The new type front clamps have simple push-in buttons that are very easy to engage. No more trying to find the holes where the pins are supposed to go in the dark: just push the buttons to lock, and slide 'em back out to unlock. It couldn't be easier!
As a final note, I have to say I was very happy with the service I received from RealTruck.com. My order was processed much quicker than the initial estimate, so I actually had my new cover delivered to my door even before the original estimate said it would ship.
