easy install.. Less than 30 minutes..
I installed this by myself but it would be easier with two people
I had been reviewing folding covers thinking they would be more convenient, but every review I read mentioned eventual leakage. Since this is my 2nd Undercover rigid cover (traded trucks) I know they don't leak and last forever. Easy install, solid cover, what more do you want?
I received my cover on time and myself and a friend installed it in about an hour. I am very satisfied with the quality and looks. E.G. White Hideaway Texas
Received in 2 days, great seller
Recently purchased this and other than delivery getting screwed up( showed up a day early). It was simple. The directions were pretty straight forward, make sure you look at the vehicle specific page. Installed in 15 minutes. If you need to, it can be installed by one person. My only complaint is the seal by the hinges. It doesn't sit flat, but great cover.
Installed the cover on my Tundra pre-runner just before driving nearly a thousand miles of hell/heaven (previous Baja 1000 course). These "roads" can wear out a truck in an afternoon. No problems with the cover.
When searching for a bed cover, I had 3 important things that I was looking for (in this order):
2. Locks/secure stuff in bed
3. Removes easily to haul taller items in the bed
I previously owned a trifold hard cover that locked that I thought covered all three isssues above. Problem was, that after about 2 or 3 years on my truck, it started to leak at the trifold seals and stuff in the bed started getting wet. Over the next 2-3 years the seals worsened and my bed was getting completely soaked inside with every rain. Completely worthless from from a waterproof standpoint. Eventually, I couldn't even lock the stuff in there securely the trifold seals were worn so badly.
So, I was searching for a replacement with the highest priority being waterproof and locking my gear inside securely.
The Undercover Classic is great so far for me. It is completely waterproof. The edges hang over the outside of the bed so there is no way water is getting in unless it start to rain "up". It is also very solid and it locks with 2 locks on each side of the bed. You can close the liner and secure it down without actually "locking" the bed (so you don't have to use the key every time to open it).
As far as security, I'm sure if someone had a crowbar and was intent on getting into the back of the bed, they could eventually get in. But, I figured, if they have a crowbar, they are just going to smash your window and take whatever they find in the cab. I didn't like the soft trifolds, because someone could just take a knife to one of the panels and get into your stuff in about 10 secs flat.
As far as being waterproof, this is all one piece and I really don't anticipate water every finding a way into my bed.
It was very easy to install. I did it in about 30 min. Just attach the 2 side rails and lift the cover on and secure the pistons and front lock rings.
It is pretty simple to remove when needed, but you do really need 2 people to remove it. Also, you have to take it off and leave it at home if you know you are going to have to haul something tall. You can't just go to the store and decide to take the cover off and put it in the back of your bed. It won't fit. It takes less than a minute to remove: unhook the 2 pistons and take off the cotter rings from the front and it comes right off. But you really need 2 people so you don't scratch it up. It's not real heavy, but it's bulky and you will do much better with 2 people.
If your priority is a cover that is waterproof and locks gear securely inside---this is great.
If you often need to haul tall stuff in your bed that requires frequent removal of the cover, this probably isn't the best choice for you. Pick the trifold models and deal with the security issues.
Last thing, the light inside is a very nice feature. Plenty bright to see your cargo at night.
I obviously don't know if the pistons are going to fail after a few years, but so fa
Cover was easy to install and has a nice water tight fit.
Although it looked like a decent product on the company's website and had gotten good reviews from a couple of my friends, I suspected that all of that stuff about 30 minute installation time was just hype. How pleasantly surprised I was when it really DID go on without a hassle. The only reason it took me 50 minutes instead of 30 was that I had to cut a couple of small recesses on the front corners of my bed liner to better accommodate the Undercover's front brackets. Nothing on the Undercover or its mounting brackets needed re-drilling, shimming or any other sort of modification. More to the point, nothing I put in the bed gets wet anymore. The Undercover people have won over a new customer for life.
