|Before purchasing, I looked at many reviews on different outlets. Many had concerns with installation, or install instructions, or the lack there of. I bought this pair of flaps for the rear wheel wells. I also purchased a matching “set” for the front. I really took my time and evaluated all the sources I could find.|
Once the product arrived, I evaluated the hardware that came with the "kit". I sought out my own stainless hardware that is the same size and grade as the type already securing the fender parts of my truck. I purchased the same amount of hardware that came with the kit.
Before installation, I removed several of the screws holding the fender molding, which released the plastic inner well exposing the preexisting screws inside. I took time to evaluate the necessary height and so forth. I hooked up my largest loaded trailer and did a mock up install, to ensure the flaps wouldn't drag.
We checked and double checked level/plum and fitment. Even though we used our own hardware, we pre drilled everything to avoid binding of the flap and tearing the sheet metal on the truck.
*The kit comes with self-tapping stainless hardware. The screws are very long and the diameter seems way too large for our application, considering the sheet metal thickness of today’s vehicles. It might be good for your application, so evaluate it before you use it.
Note: You have only yourself to blame if the self-tapping screw starts walking and pierces the outside body of your truck. We used all the preexisting screws available on the fender well. For securing the flap to the inner fender well, we used two longer stainless bolts with nylock nuts.
We were pleased with the look, quality, fitment and style that flaps provide. We’re looking forward to leaving the crap on the road and not in the bumper. Installation could be as simple, or as difficult as you want to make it. Just take your time.
